Expedia Launches AI-Powered Travel Assistant ’Comet’ in Partnership with Perplexity

Expedia Group has unveiled Comet, a free AI-driven travel browser developed in collaboration with Perplexity. The tool integrates conversational search, destination comparisons, and instant booking into a single interface, marking Expedia's latest push into AI-enhanced travel planning.

Users who download Comet will receive Silver status in Expedia's OneKey loyalty program—the first time the company has extended loyalty benefits to an external product launch. "This partnership merges loyalty, advertising, and innovation," said Clayton Nelson, Expedia's VP of Strategic Partnerships.

The launch reflects Expedia's broader strategy to embed AI across its ecosystem. Comet's agentic AI capabilities aim to streamline trip research while maintaining Expedia's booking infrastructure, creating a closed-loop experience for travelers.
